Local Filmmaker Finally Finishes His Progresso Soup Commercial Spoof -

Des Moines, IW - After a turbulent eighteen month long creative journey, filmmaker William R. Donaldson finally finished his Progresso Soup commercial spoof, titled the "Fake Progresso Soup Commercial."

"Yeah I had the idea couple of months ago when I was sitting on the toilet, and this commercial for Progresso's Chicken Noodle Soup came on. So I was just sitting there and listening to the TV and thought 'here I am sitting on the toilet' and I totally thought that was the funniest shit ever you know. Actually maybe it was Campbell's soup? Heck, I don’t remember."

The seven minute and twenty-five second commercial, along with the two and a half hour behind-the-scene documentary, and out-takes, premiered this weekend at William’s parent’s basement.

"Good job Bill. That was the funniest commercial you’re ever done." William’s father Ron had enjoyed the movie.

"Yeah that’s my nigga, that shit was off the hook. OFF DA HOOK!" William’s brother Timothy also had a great time watching the film. However Timothy declined to comment on the specifics regarding the hook.

"If this was a real commercial, it might not have sold any soup, but it sure would have sold laughter, which is the most precious thing in the world, next to the everlasting life-force of the infinite cosmos." Roland Goldberg, William’s neighbor and president of the "Reach For the Light Foundation" – dedicated to servicing you during your near death experience.

"I feel so lucky and fortunate to have this group of friends that supported me and helped me to make my dream come true." Holding back tears, William thanked the audience. "Whew, time sure flies when you're making movies. But it was sure worth it. It was hard to decide what to cut from the five hours of footage I accumulated. Everyone was just so awesome, you know? But finally I had it down to 7 minutes. But it was tough. It was real tough."

William was delighted that the project turned out better than his expectations. "God damn, seven minutes of pure qualify from a half page script! Imagine that! But you know, what the audience really loved was the behind the scenes stuff. And that’s where I’m going to focus for my next project.

William’s next project is another spoof, titled "Bleeding Asshole" - a satire on Preparation H commercials.

Watch out Sundance, here comes William!
