Filmmaker Defiant Facing the Accusation of Bad Taste – March 14, 2004 - cm
Salem, MA - – The citizen watchdog group "Concerned Citizens for the Decency of Cable Access Programming" has issued a complaint against "Why Bother Productions" director Robin Savage, over his use of news footage in his latest film "The Last Days of Tokyo."
"It was distasteful because it was really somebody's house burning down," said Lindsay Adams of the CCDCAP. We don’t have problem with watching a house on fire on cable access. It would have been fine if Mr. Savage recreated the house fire with a smaller-scaled model. But Mr. Savage exploited the real news footage of a fire that actually occurred last week at Tim Brenson’s house on 16th and Sherman. He also presented it in the context of an evil drug lord’s house going up in flames. We found his application inappropriate and disturbing."
"Bunch of fucking hypocrites," rebutted Mr. Savage. "How come nobody complained when I reused the footage of the California wildfire for my supernatural thriller "It Came From the Hellfire?" Huh? Because it was from the west coast so nobody gave a fuck? Or when I reused footage of the Istanbul earthquake for my movie "Unfathomable Beast from the Darkness?" Fuck them, I’ve got a movie to make and I got to do what I got to do."
Defiant against CCDCAP, Mr. Savage isn’t changing his plans. "I’m working on a sci-fi thriller called "Showdown in Idaho." It’s about a group of teenagers discovering the U.S. Navy’s insidious plan to control U.S. citizens through credit cards’ embedded microchips. I plan to recycle the footage of the World Trade Center crashing down."
Mr. Savage also offered this final word: "Hey look it’s my freedom of expression. CCAAPD is a psycho bitch and she’s coming after me because after I dumped her I had sex with her sister and her mom. But hey don’t blame me for having a bad taste, blame her mom and her sister for being sluts."
