latest 24 hour films:

You call yourself a filmmaker.
This is your chance to prove it.

2 weeks to plan it.
24 hours to shoot it.
One week to edit it.
Then get it to us by May 31, 2003.

Your task is to create a feature film, of 70 minutes or more, in 24 hours. Those not wishing to enter in this category can prepare a long short film of 40-69 minutes in 24 hours.

Impossible, you say. It's not. The trick is, you can have up to three weeks of preparation time. You can take your time writing the script. You can rehearse with your actors. You can spend as much time figuring out what you're doing as you want.

THEN, you say, all right, go, and try to shoot it in a space of 24 hours or until your crew has to go to sleep.

We at Fastforward have shot feature films in 24 hours (see The Animal Game), and believe a feature film of some quality can be shot in 24 hours provided the crew is well rested. It just takes planning and a realization that there will be basically no second takes.

Then, you will have up to a week to edit the film and release it. If you fail ... if you take, say, 48 hours to shoot the film and 10-15 days to edit it, you will not be utterly disqualified, but your score will be marked down somewhat. You will also be marked down if your film falls under 70 minutes, and marked in a different category. (OPTIONAL ALTERNATE RULES: You will NOT be marked down for taking longer than 24 hours to shoot if you also manage to edit the film within 72 hours of your start of shooting. Meaning, you would have to shoot AND edit the film within 72 hours - this is more difficult than our regular rules, so please just shoot the thing in 24 hours and edit it in a week, all right?)

Entries will be judged on watchability -- how entertaining the final product is. Extra points if it runs a full 2 hours or 90 minutes and holds together as a feature with a good story and great performances. The panel will be the people of FFrevolution.com, and any other filmmakers we have watch them.

Final projects of all shapes and sizes will be screened at the film festival in South Dakota this summer. The prizes for the winners will then be given out, donated by outside sources. Contact me at ocpmovie at lycos.com if you wish to donate materials as prizes.

The main thing is to see this as an experiment, to see how good you can make this, to see what you can pull off in 24 hours and earn the respect of our filmmaking community.

The countdown has already begun. Interested parties should plan their shoot to take place on or before MAY 20TH, 2003. Most shoots should take place in late April to early May. All projects should be in the hands of FFrevolution.com by May 31, 2003. Late entries will not be ignored, but may be marked down.

Good luck and good shooting.
